Hanko: An Essential Item

In Japan, hanko (personal seals) are frequently used in daily life. They are required for tasks such as municipal paperwork, work-related matters, and even receiving deliveries. There have been many times when I went to the city hall to handle some paperwork, only to realize I forgot my hanko and couldn’t complete the process. I had to go back home and return later… Hanko are essential for living in Japan. While some documents can now be signed instead, there are still cases where paperwork won’t be accepted without a hanko. It’s especially important to have one for municipal office procedures, bank transactions, and work-related tasks.
